How We Publish & How We Earn

The four policies that together explain how anything on MetaOriental came to be in front of you: how rankings are produced, how we are paid, where AI writes and where a human checks, and what happens when you leave the site or watch an embedded video.

Rankings & Editorial Methodology

Effective: August 9, 2026 · Last updated: August 9, 2026

1. The rule that governs everything on this page — and the rest of the Service

This section is the controlling statement of both rules below. Other policies point here rather than restating them.

1.1 Money buys none of this. Brands cannot buy a rank position, a score, a rating, a review conclusion, an editorial recommendation, an exclusive category, the exclusion of a competitor, guaranteed traffic, or the removal, hiding or demotion of criticism. Paying us for any service — advertising, sponsored placement, listing services, fulfilment or anything else — buys none of them.

1.2 Genuine criticism stays up. We do not remove, hide, demote or edit the substance of a genuine review, rating or community post because it is unfavourable to a brand, an advertiser or to MetaOriental. We act on content that is false, infringing, undisclosed, unsafe, harassing or otherwise against our rules — never on content merely because it is negative. No brand can pay to change that, and a brand that pressures a member over a genuine post should be reported to legal@metaoriental.com.

Paid placements exist, are clearly labelled Sponsored, and are excluded from ranked lists — they never appear with a rank number.

Affiliate commissions do not influence any ranking or conclusion.

2. What we publish

ListWhat it isHow it updates
Trending NowThe top 10 products across all categories, by the popularity score described in Section 3Continuously — the list is re-sorted each time you load it
Emerging ProductsProducts from emerging and early-stage companies, ordered by the same scoreContinuously
By CategoryTop picks within each of our eight categoriesContinuously
MediaThird-party posts about products, ordered by engagement figures recorded when we collected themEngagement figures refresh when we re-collect them, not in real time
CommunityDiscussions and polls surfaced by member activityContinuously

These lists change as activity changes. A product's position can move between two visits on the same day. We do not publish a dated, frozen "list of the month" — if you want to cite a position, cite the date and time you saw it.

3. How the ordering is produced — plainly

A product's position comes from a single popularity score, and that score has exactly two ingredients.

3.1 A curated editorial base score

Every product starts with a base score we set editorially when the product is added to the catalogue. It reflects our own read of how much attention and interest a product has attracted, including what we have seen about it on third-party platforms. It is a curatorial judgement recorded as a number, not a measurement. It is not recomputed from live third-party data, and it does not update on its own.

3.2 On-platform engagement, added to that base

We then add weighted counts of what people actually do on MetaOriental: saves, shares, clicks through to a seller, comments, and community post votes. Each counter has a fixed weight. That is the whole formula — base score plus weighted on-site counters.

What we do not do, so there is no confusion: we do not compute a live cross-platform engagement figure, we do not normalize a TikTok like against a Reddit upvote, we do not apply a recency weighting or a decay curve, and we do not measure over a rolling window. Engagement counters are cumulative. A product that accumulated activity a year ago keeps the benefit of it.

3.3 Inauthentic activity

We may exclude or discount signals we identify as inauthentic, and we remove content and reverse rewards where we find manipulation. This is a capability we apply when something is brought to our attention or looks wrong — not a continuous automated screen running over every event, and we do not claim it catches everything.

3.4 Availability and eligibility filters

A product is eligible only if it is: a consumer AI hardware or smart-living product in one of our categories; currently available or announced with a stated availability date; lawful to sell and use in the United States; and not subject to an unresolved safety, recall or compliance issue known to us.

3.5 Editorial judgement

Our editors set the base score in 3.1, and may exclude a product that would otherwise rank where there is evidence of manipulated engagement, an unresolved safety concern, materially misleading marketing claims, or where inclusion would be misleading — for example, viral content that is about something other than the product's actual performance.

Editors can exclude. Editors cannot promote a product in exchange for anything of value.

4. What we do not use

  • Payments, advertising spend, service fees or any commercial relationship
  • Affiliate commission rates or margin
  • Brand requests, complaints or pressure
  • Any signal we know or suspect to be purchased, botted or coordinated

5. "Emerging Products" — how a company qualifies

Emerging Products is the main ordering with large, established brands taken out. We tag each brand in the catalogue as established or not — an editorial call based on company stage, product-line breadth and market presence rather than a single revenue figure — and the Emerging list is the same popularity ordering with the established ones excluded. It is a curated exclusion, not a separate scoring model.

Being an emerging company confers no advantage in the main rankings, and paying us nothing does not disqualify a product from either list. If you think your brand is tagged wrongly in either direction, write to legal@metaoriental.com.

6. Paid placement — how it looks

Editorial listingPaid placement
LabelNoneSponsored
Rank numberYesNever
Position in a ranked listEarnedExcluded from the list
Editorial conclusionOursOurs, or the brand's own copy, labelled as such

You will never see "#3 Sponsored." A paid unit is visually distinct and outside the numbered sequence.

7. Limitations — read this before relying on a ranking

7.1 A ranking measures attention, not quality. A product can trend because it is genuinely good, because it is unusual, because it is controversial, or because a single video went viral.

7.2 Rankings reflect signals available to us at a point in time and are not statistical predictions and not advice about what you should buy.

7.3 Engagement figures reported by third-party platforms may be inaccurate, delayed or manipulated in ways we cannot detect.

7.4 Our category coverage is not exhaustive. A product's absence means nothing about its quality.

7.5 Prices, availability and specifications change constantly. Verify with the seller before you buy.

8. Manipulation

Attempting to manipulate a ranking — through purchased engagement, bots, click farms, coordinated accounts, incentivized fake activity or fake reviews — results in exclusion from all lists, removal of content, forfeiture of rewards, account termination, and where a brand is involved, suspension of the commercial relationship.

Report suspected manipulation to legal@metaoriental.com.

9. Records and corrections

9.1 We retain the applicable methodology description, the principal data inputs, commercial disclosures and records of significant editorial decisions for at least three years.

9.2 If you believe a ranking is wrong or a product was wrongly included or excluded, write to legal@metaoriental.com with specifics. We review and correct where warranted.

9.3 Material changes to the methodology are noted here with the date they took effect.

10. Brands referencing our rankings

Using a MetaOriental ranking, score or editorial conclusion in your own marketing requires our prior written approval covering the specific claim, time period, context and scope. See Terms of Use §6.3.

Advertising, Affiliate & Sponsorship Disclosure

Effective: August 9, 2026 · Last updated: August 9, 2026

In one sentence: we make money from affiliate commissions, brand services and sponsored placements; none of it buys a rank position, a score, a review conclusion or the removal of criticism; and everything commercial is labelled.

1. How MetaOriental makes money

Revenue sourceWhat it isDoes it affect rankings or editorial conclusions?
Affiliate commissionsWe earn a commission when you buy through some links, at no extra cost to youNo
SalesWhere a page names MetaOriental or its designated entity as seller, we earn a marginNo
Brand servicesBrands pay us for content production, localization, creator campaigns, market validation and growth servicesNo
Sponsored placementsBrands pay for clearly labelled placement unitsNo — sponsored units are excluded from ranked lists
AdvertisingStandard advertising units, labelledNo

We do not accept payment to change a ranking, a rating, an editorial conclusion or a recommendation, and we do not accept payment to remove, hide or demote genuine criticism. See Rankings & Editorial Methodology.

2. Labels you will see

LabelMeaning
SponsoredA brand paid for this placement. Excluded from ranked lists.
Paid partnershipThe creator received payment or commission connected to this content
Gifted productThe creator received the product free or at a discount. A Task Rule may still have required deliverables — a post, a format, a minimum length, how long it stays up — but never a positive conclusion, a star rating or the suppression of an honest opinion
Affiliate linkWe may earn a commission if you buy through this link
Partner brandThe brand has a commercial agreement with us — this says nothing about product quality
AdvertisementA paid advertising unit
InsiderContent by someone connected to MetaOriental or to the brand. If you are an employee, contractor, officer, investor, or an immediate family member or household member of one — at MetaOriental or at the brand you are posting about — you must say so in the post itself. The label does not discharge that duty

3. Affiliate links

3.1 Some links on the Service are affiliate or tracked links. If you buy through one, MetaOriental may receive a commission from the seller.

3.2 This costs you nothing extra. The price you pay is the price the seller charges.

3.3 Commission rates vary by seller and product. We do not rank products by commission rate, and our editorial team does not see commission rates when producing rankings or conclusions.

3.4 Affiliate links are disclosed near the link, not only in this page or the footer.

4. Creator content on our platform

4.1 Creators must disclose material connections in the content itself. See Creator & Affiliate Terms §5 and Community Guidelines §3.

4.2 Where we know of a commercial relationship connected to our platform, we label it. Where the composer offers a disclosure selector, use it — any label we apply supplements the creator's own disclosure; it does not replace it, and its absence is not permission to skip your own.

4.3 No creator reward is ever conditioned on a positive review, a star rating or the suppression of an honest opinion. A genuine negative review that meets the objective delivery conditions is paid in full.

5. If you share a referral link — this applies to every member, not just creators

You do not have to be a registered creator for this to apply to you. Any member can generate a share or referral link, and we award rewards points for generating one, for visits it brings, and when someone signs up or saves a product through it. See Membership & Points Terms.

5.1 Those points are a material connection. You are receiving something of value in return for sharing. Under the FTC's endorsement rules that has to be disclosed, in the same way a paid creator discloses a fee.

5.2 Saying so is easy and short. Any of these is enough, in the post itself: "I earn rewards points if you sign up through this link," "I get MetaOriental points for shares," "referral link — I earn points." You do not need to state how many points, or what they are worth.

5.3 The standard is the same one in Section 10 — with the link, before any fold or "more" control, in the same language as your post. Not only in a bio.

5.4 What we do not do. We do not pay points for a positive opinion, a rating, or for taking down criticism. Points are awarded for the qualifying action itself, whatever you said about the product.

5.5 If you are also paid by a brand for the same content, disclose that too — the points disclosure does not cover it. See Creator & Affiliate Terms §5.

6. Embedded third-party content

Embedded posts from YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, X and Reddit were published by their authors on those platforms. Those authors may have commercial relationships with brands that we are not party to and may not know about. Their own disclosure is what applies. Where we know of a relationship connected to our platform, we label it. See External Links & Embedded Content Policy.

7. Our editorial separation

7.1 Rankings, comparisons, editorial conclusions and recommendations are produced under our published methodology.

7.2 Commercial teams do not decide editorial conclusions and cannot instruct an editor to change a rank, a score or a conclusion.

7.3 Where a commercial relationship exists with a product we cover editorially, it is disclosed on that page.

7.4 A brand paying us for services does not buy a rank position, a score, a review conclusion, a recommendation, an exclusive category, exclusion of a competitor, or guaranteed traffic.

8. Reviews

We do not buy, sell, solicit or fabricate reviews, and no incentive is conditioned on a positive rating. Displayed averages include qualifying negative reviews. See Reviews & Ratings Policy.

9. If you think something is not labelled properly

Tell us at legal@metaoriental.com with the URL. We treat missing disclosure as a serious issue: we correct it, and repeat failures by a creator or brand lead to removal and account action.

10. The standard we hold ourselves to

We aim to meet the requirements of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's guidance on endorsements, testimonials, native advertising and consumer reviews. This is the same standard we hold creators and members to, and it is the one referred to throughout this page and in the Creator & Affiliate Terms §5:

Disclosure must be clear, conspicuous and hard to miss: at the start of written content before any fold or "more" control, within the first three seconds of video, and repeated at reasonable intervals during a live stream. A platform disclosure label supplements your own disclosure; it does not replace it.

In plain language, in the same language as the content, placed with the content it relates to — never buried in a footer, a bio or a collapsed section.

If you find a disclosure on our Service that does not meet that standard, we want to know: legal@metaoriental.com.

AI-Generated & Editorial Content Policy

Effective: August 9, 2026 · Last updated: August 9, 2026

We use AI tools in producing parts of the Service. This page says where, what a human does, and what we will never do with them.

1. Where we use AI

UseWhat the AI doesWhat a human does
AI shopping assistant (chat)Answers your questions and suggests products. Replies are generated by a large language model in real timeNo human reviews an individual reply before you see it. We set the assistant's instructions, monitor it in aggregate, and correct it on report
Product descriptions and specification summariesDrafts and summarizes from manufacturer-published materialsAn editor reviews before publication and is accountable for it
Translation and localizationProduces a first draftReviewed where the content is commercially or legally significant
Category and tag assignmentClassifies productsSpot-checked; corrected on report
Search and recommendationsRanks and matchesMethodology is set by us and published
Content moderationFlags potential violationsA human decides on removal, suspension and termination in contested cases
Community and trend signalsAggregates and summarizes public engagement dataReviewed before it affects a published ranking
Fraud and invalid-traffic detectionScores anomaliesA human reviews before rewards are reversed or an account is terminated

1.1 The AI shopping assistant — read this before you rely on it

The assistant is the one place on the Service where you read text that no person checked before it reached you. So:

  • It can be wrong. It can state a specification, a price, a compatibility, an availability date or a safety characteristic that is inaccurate, out of date, or simply invented. Treat every factual claim it makes as unverified.
  • Check it against the product page and the brand. Where the assistant and a product page disagree, the product page is the better source — and neither replaces the manufacturer's own documentation. Section 4.2 applies to the assistant in full.
  • It is not advice. It is not professional, medical, legal, financial or safety advice, and it does not know your circumstances. For anything touching health, fitness, sleep, mobility, infant care or bodily measurement, see the Health & Wellness Disclaimer — the assistant is subject to it, and it may not diagnose, screen, or tell you whether to seek care.
  • It does not speak for us or for a brand. Nothing it says is a representation, a warranty, an offer, a price quote, a commitment, or a statement of a brand's position.
  • No brand can pay to change what it recommends. Section 5 applies to the assistant.
  • Tell us when it gets something wrong: legal@metaoriental.com. We use reports to correct its instructions and its sources.

2. What we will not do

  • We do not use AI to fabricate a product test, a measurement, a review, a testimonial or a user experience.
  • We do not generate images or video that depict product performance that was not observed, and we do not present synthetic imagery as an actual recording.
  • We do not generate fake reviews, fake community posts, fake engagement or fake users.
  • We do not use AI to write a review conclusion or a ranking position and present it as human editorial judgement without saying so.
  • We do not use AI-generated likenesses or voices of real people without their permission.
  • We do not let an automated system be the final decision-maker on terminating an account or reversing earned compensation where the user contests it.

3. Labelling

LabelWhen it appears
AI-assistedText drafted or summarized with AI from source materials and reviewed by an editor
AI-generated imageAny image produced or materially altered by generative tools
Auto-translatedMachine translation not reviewed by a human — appears only where we offer translated content
Automated summarySummary of community or third-party content produced without editorial review

Where a label appears, the underlying source is identified where practicable.

4. Accuracy — and its limits

4.1 AI-assisted descriptions are drawn from manufacturer-published materials. Those materials may be wrong, outdated or incomplete, and the AI may itself introduce an error.

4.2 Verify specifications, compatibility, safety information, certifications, warranty terms, price and availability with the brand or seller before you buy. Do not rely on a MetaOriental description for a purchase decision with safety or compatibility consequences.

4.3 We do not independently test products unless we say so on the page. Unless a page expressly states that we tested, measured, benchmarked, inspected or certified a product, we have not. Our descriptions are compiled from manufacturer materials and public sources, and where we do publish our own hands-on observations we say so and say what we did.

4.4 Human review before publication for high-risk categories. Before we publish a product page — and before we enable any purchase path on it — a person reviews the content where the product involves health, safety, child care, elder care, pets, lithium batteries and charging, mobility and powered motion, drones and airborne devices, lasers and UV, recording or continuous listening, biometric features, privacy-sensitive data processing, medical or health claims, or any otherwise regulated category. The hazard features in Product Safety & Recalls §5 are the working list. Automated drafting does not bypass this step.

4.5 Report an error at legal@metaoriental.com, or using the Report an error control where the page offers one. We correct or remove promptly and, where the error was material, we note the correction on the page.

4.6 We do not warrant that AI-assisted content is accurate, complete or current. See Terms of Use §13.

5. Editorial independence

5.1 Rankings, comparisons, editorial conclusions and recommendations are produced under our own methodology, published at Rankings & Editorial Methodology.

5.2 No brand can pay for a rank position, a score, a review conclusion or a recommendation, and no brand can pay to have criticism removed or demoted — the controlling statement of this rule, and the full list of what money does not buy, is at Rankings & Editorial Methodology §1. Paid placements are labelled and excluded from ranked lists. This applies to the AI shopping assistant as much as to an editor.

5.3 Commercial teams do not decide editorial conclusions. Where a commercial relationship exists with a product we cover, it is disclosed on the page.

5.4 Affiliate commissions do not influence rankings or conclusions. See Advertising, Affiliate & Sponsorship Disclosure.

6. Rules for creators using AI

If you use generative AI, synthetic media or materially edited footage in content on or for MetaOriental:

  • Do not impersonate a real person or use their likeness or voice without permission.
  • Do not fabricate a real-world experience or present synthetic footage as an actual recording of product performance.
  • Do not mislead your audience about what you actually did, used or observed.
  • Label it where the law or the publishing platform requires, and where an ordinary viewer would otherwise be misled.
  • You remain fully responsible for the content and for having the rights to it.

See Creator & Affiliate Terms §4.3.

7. Your content and model training

7.1 We use aggregated, anonymized or de-identified data to improve search, ranking, recommendation, fraud detection and content tooling on the Service. This does not extend to consumer health data. Consumer health data is used only for the purposes stated in the Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy, which controls over this Policy and over the Privacy Policy for that data — it is not used to improve search, ranking or recommendations, and it is not aggregated for that purpose.

7.2 We do not sell your personal information. See Your Privacy Choices.

7.3 We do not use the content of your private support communications to train general-purpose models.

7.4 Your public posts remain publicly accessible and, like any public web content, may be collected by third parties outside our control. We apply the technical signals available to us to limit unauthorized scraping, but cannot prevent it entirely.

7.5 See Privacy Policy §3.

8. Human accountability

Every published page has an accountable human owner. Automated systems assist that person; they do not replace them.

The AI shopping assistant is the stated exception, and we would rather name it than blur it: its individual replies are generated in real time and are not reviewed by a person before you see them. A named team owns the assistant — its instructions, its sources, its guardrails and its corrections — but no one signs off a single reply. That is why §1.1 asks you to verify what it tells you.

Questions about how a specific piece of content was produced: legal@metaoriental.com.

9. Changes

This Policy is updated as our tooling changes, with a new "Last updated" date.
