Apple HomeView
Smart display that knows each face in the house
$299
Camera and microphone data is handled in Secure Exclaves, a walled-off part of the A18 chip that Apple says its own software cannot read, and that is what lets the display recognize up to six faces and swap to that person's Messages, Calendar and Find My. Personal content only shows up when the matching iPhone is on the same Wi-Fi and has been unlocked recently, so a guest standing in front of it gets the household screen. Both the tabletop and the wall-mounted model are $299, the Schneider Home wall mounts are sold separately from $59.95, and Siri AI ships as a beta — Apple is not selling HomeView in the EU at all, because Siri AI is not available in iOS there.

Google Fitbit Edge
Fitness tracker that logs workouts you forgot to start
$179.99
It recognizes and files up to 100 kinds of workout on its own, so the walk you never hit start on still counts toward the week. Google credits a new GPS chipset and a nano-molded aluminum housing for up to 40 percent better tracking accuracy than the previous generation, and calls this its first repairable fitness tracker, with a modular interior and a replaceable battery. The Health Guardian trends that run in the background — blood pressure and insulin resistance among them — need Google Health Premium for the Coach to interpret them; three months come with the tracker.

Segway Xyber Air
Moto-style e-bike that cuts power when wheels slip
$1999.99
Traction control watches wheel speed and, when it reads slip, trims motor power or briefly applies braking force; hill start assist holds the bike on an incline until you move off, and hill descent control keeps a steady speed downhill instead of riding the brakes. Segway's page lists a 750W motor, a 717Wh battery, up to 58 miles of range and 84 lb, switchable between class 1, 2 and 3 where the law allows, except in California. The store is taking email notifications rather than pre-orders at $1,999.99 until the October 27 on-sale date, and the same page says network and cloud services, GPS tracking included, are free for the first year and need a subscription after that.

NOVEMBER 2026
HIYD Sensor
Kickstarter disc that sticks under the watch you own
$199
This is a Kickstarter launching in November, so nothing ships yet: a 2.7mm, 25mm disc that holds onto a watch caseback by microsuction rather than glue or magnets, and gives a watch with no electronics in it sleep score and stages, resting heart rate, HRV, daily readiness, steps and a camera-based calorie scan. Hiyd says it runs four days on a charge, pairs with a Battery Band that charges it overnight so it never has to come off, or a standalone charger, and feeds Apple Health and Google Health. The $199 is Hiyd's early-bird launch price, which its page calls $100 off without saying off what, and the company commits to nothing firmer than the first batch shipping “by Q2 2027 at the latest”.

How we pick
What this ranking is, and what it is not.
- The whole market, not our shelf
- Entries are consumer AI and smart-living devices from anywhere. Most of them are products we do not sell.
- An editor decides the order
- Positions come from an editor reading the week's coverage. There is no score and no formula behind them.
- Platforms are read separately
- We look at YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, X and Reddit. Numbers from different platforms are never added together.
- Published weekly, then frozen
- A week runs Friday to Friday in America/Los_Angeles and publishes on the closing Friday. Once published, a past week is never recalculated.
